Writers & Books is a literary center in Rochester dedicated to fostering and promoting reading and writing as lifelong activities. They attract individuals of all ages and backgrounds and offer numerous programs, such as writing classes and workshops, outreach programs, and "Rochester Reads," an annual city-wide program. They began as a mobile bookstore called "The Book Bus" in 1974, traveling throughout the northeastern United States and bringing small-press books to new audiences. They moved to their present location in 1985, a landmark building and former precinct station designed by Rochester architect Claude Bragdon. (from Writers & Books)
